Robert began his musical career in 1994 when he took up brass lessons at
Penicuik High School
Robert began his musical career in
1994 when he took up brass lessons at Penicuik High
School. He has worked with some of the top directors of music and many of
Scotland’s leading brass bands through his involvement in conducting and
workshops with the National Association of Brass Band Conductors. He has played
various brass instruments over a period of 12 years and now plays E flat tuba
with the prestigious Whitburn Band.Robert won “Bandsman of the Year” for his
services to the band in 2005. Despite being only 24 years old, he has played in
many great competitions and concerts in his career, including the National
Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in London,
the European Championships in the Netherlands, and tours to Germany the Faroe Islands and Japan. He has also worked with and played
with the West Lothian Schools Brass Band. He is currently Training Band Tutor
at Newland Concert Brass in Bathgate and has worked with many bands in Scotland
as a conductor. Robert is studying the Bachelor of Education in music course at
the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and Glasgow University to become
a secondary school classroom music teacher. In spring 2007 Robert was accepted
on to the staff of deputy teachers at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and
Drama to teach in their junior academy and Youth works department. Following
working with the Newland junior band Robert was asked to become the musical
director with the senior Newland concert brass band in January 2008.
