2007 was
a busy year for Newland Junior Band!
In March
members enjoyed an evening of Ten Pin Bowling at Deer Park! Families
and friends of band members also came along to an Open Rehearsal in this month. Not
only did they hear how members have progressed but they also got the chance to see the photo display of band members at work!
In April
Junior Band members performed for the residents of Royal Scot Court in Bathgate where the audience was treated to music such
as The Muppet Show and Jungle Suite.
In May the
Junior Band and Beginners Group took part in a concert with the pupils of Windyknowe
Primary School where an appreciative audience was treated to an evening
from the Windyknowe choir, Windyknowe Ocarina Group and Newland Concert Brass and Newland Junior Band and Beginners Group. Members of the Windyknowe brass group also played alongside the Junior Band and a
variety of pupils volunteered to help out on percussion during songs such as Barbie Girl and Amarillo!
Members
took part in the Bathgate Procession and John Newland Festival on the 2nd June.
Some members marched with the Senior Band and others held our banner.
In September
Newland Junior Band took part in “Brass in the Park” in Newtongrange, entertaining the audience with a range of
popular music including “Eye of The Tiger” and “Aura Lee” featuring cornet soloist Imogen Beck. This was the band’s first time at an event of this kind and they were presented
with bronze medals. At the end of September, band members enjoyed the 20th
Anniversary Ceilidh.
Newland
Junior Band and Beginners Group were delighted to take part in the 20th
Anniversary Concert at The Regal Theatre in October. For many of them it was
their first appearance on stage in concert and they did themselves proud. A highlight
was when the Junior and Senior Bands combined to perform Alan Fernie’s Jungle Suite(complete with sound effects from
the Beginners Group!) Junior Band member, 11 year old tenor horn player, Susan
Wood was the proud recipient of the Most Progressed Player Award for 2007.
In November
members enjoyed another night out at the bowling!
In December
both the Junior Band and Beginners Group played a selection of festive favourites and popular concert pieces at the Annual
Christmas Concert at St John’s Church. Many members got into the spirit of Christmas by decorating their instruments in tinsel
or wearing Santa hats!
